A Critical Evaluation of the Classical k " Model and Wall-Laws for Unsteady Flows over Bluff Bodies

چکیده
The classical k ? " model and a new implementation of wall-laws have been evaluated for unsteady turbulent ows past square and circular cylinders. We show that good numerics can lead to a serious improvement of the results. In the case of the ow past a square cylinder (Lyn's test case), results agree surprisingly well with the experimental data. In the analysis of the vortex shedding ow past a circular cylinder also the agreement is quite good for the sub-critical regime but not entirely satisfactory after the critical Reynolds number (i.e. the drag crisis phenomenon). Evaluation critique du mod ele k ? Nous montrons qu'une bonne m ethode num erique conduit a de tr es bons r esultats. Pour la premi ere connguration (cas-test de Lyn), nous remarquons une bonne correlation avec l exp erience. Pour le cylindre circulaire les r esultats sont satisfaisants pour le r egime sous-critique tandis que des lacunes apparaissenet apr es la crise de la train ee.

Effects Of Frequency Variation At Inlet Flow On The Vortex Shedding Frequency Behind A Circular Cylinder
In many applications the flow that past bluff bodies has frequency nature (oscillated) and it is not uniform. This kind of flow has effects on the formation of vortex shedding behind bluff bodies. In this paper the flow around a circular cylinder was numerically simulated. The effects of frequency variation at inlet flow on the vortex shedding frequency were investigated. The transient Two-Dime...

متن کاملA Review of Recent Studies on Simulations for Flow around High-Speed Trains
Fluid flow around bluff bodies occurs in numerous fields of science and engineering, such as flows pass vehicles, cables, towers and bridges. These flows have been studied experimentally and numerically for the last several decades. The investigation of flow around high-speed trains is an important application of bluff bodies. Fluid flow, aerodynamic forces and moments, separation and wake regi...
متن کاملHybrid Adaptive Wavelet Collocation – Brinkman Penalization Method for Unsteady RANS Simulations of Compressible Flow around Bluff Bodies
One of the most practically important problems of computational aero-acoustics is the efficient and accurate calculation of flows around solid obstacles of arbitrary shapes. To simulate flows in complex domains, we combine two mathematical approaches, the Adaptive Wavelet Collocation Method, which tackles the problem of efficiently resolving localized flow structures, and the Brinkman Penalizat...
متن کاملResistance in Unsteady Flow – Search for a Model
To devise a physics-based model through the use of analytical, numerical, physical, and thought experiments for the prediction of flow-induced unsteady forces on bluff bodies immersed in timedependent flows. The new model is expected to replace the Morison equation (hereafter called the MOJS equation) and offer greater universality, particularly in the inertia/drag regime, in calculating forces...
